If you’ve noticed your sterling silver jewelry looking a little less radiant than when you first got it, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. Silver is a beautiful precious metal, and part of its charm is that it evolves with time. That said, I understand the desire to keep your favorite pieces glowing, especially when they hold meaning or memories.
As a jewelry designer at AgJc, I often get this question: "How do I clean my silver jewelry at home?" And today, I’m sharing my favorite studio-approved trick, one that’s natural, effective, and gentle enough to preserve the beauty of your AgJc jewelry.
A simple, natural solution, just like magic ✨
This method uses ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen. No harsh chemicals, no specialized tools, just a bit of time and care. I love it because it respects the material while bringing back the soft shine of silver, whether you wear jewelry with matte or polished finishes.
Here’s how to do it:
-
Line a bowl with aluminum foil, shiny side facing up.
-
Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of baking soda (you can also use salt in a pinch).
-
Pour boiling water into the bowl, enough to dissolve the powder and cover your jewelry.
-
Place your sterling silver jewelry into the solution, making sure it touches the foil (this part is key to the reaction).
-
Let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes while the chemical magic happens.
-
Rinse thoroughly with cold water and dry gently with a soft cloth.
This method works beautifully on our sterling silver jewelry, especially on pieces with subtle finishes. It revives their natural glow and helps maintain their elegance over time.
💡 A quick note: This technique isn’t recommended for oxidized silver or Vermeil pieces, as it could alter their unique finishes. But don’t worry, I’ll be sharing specific care tips for those very soon!
Jewelry care is a form of self-care 💛
Taking the time to care for your jewelry is more than maintenance, it’s a ritual. A moment to reconnect with a piece that speaks to your style, your story, or perhaps a meaningful gift from someone special.
I’d love to know, have you tried this method before? Or maybe you have your own silver care secrets?
Feel free to share your experience or even a photo of your freshly cleaned AgJc jewelry using the hashtag #AgJcJewelryCare. It always warms my heart to see how you wear and care for the pieces we create.
Until next time,
